A colonel in the Imperial Security Bureau, a department of Imperial Intelligence, Wullf Yularen was assigned to brief Grand Moff Tarkin on the recent actions of the Rebel Alliance. Yularen was also ordered to ensure absolute loyalty to the Emperor amongst the staff of Tarkin as well as the Grand Moff himself. Yularen was killed along with Tarkin and the rest of his staff when the first Death Star was destroyed at the Battle of Yavin. Wullf Yularen can be seen in A New Hope during the staff meeting where Darth Vader chokes out Admiral Motti.
This custom is a very straightforward figure to make, its just a simple repaint sprinkled with a light dash of carving and filing. Taking one Grand Moff Tarkin, I first carved off the 2nd row of rank markings on the chest (Yularen only has one row). I then went on to painting the jacket a camouflage gray, many customizers paint the jacket white but after reviewing the scene in ANH in which Yularen appears I concluded that the jacket is more likely a light gray so I painted the jacket with camouflage gray paint. Next where the pants, which I decided where black, just based off of several other customizers version of the figure. One difference that this figure has from others is that some accidentally paint part of the jacket as well as the pants, as the jacket overruns the pants, as you can see I did not make the mistake. Next up in the rank markings on the uniform, as far as I could see in ANH Yularen did not have any rank cylinders, I didn't want to risk damaging the figure so I did not shave the cylinders off, I just painted over them. As for the rank insignia on the chest, I painted 4 of the remaining 6 rank blocks red, to match the ranking in the movie. Finally, the head was done by painting Tarkin's hair white, and adding a white mustache to the face. That completes the figure, a long explanation for a relatively simple custom, eh?
