The Empire claims that Imperial Sandtroopers are specially picked Stormtroopers who are trained in desert tactics, but in reality they are near the bottom of the Imperial totem pole. Most Sandtroopers are given their position because they have in some way upset a superior officer and were transferred to some hellish world like Tatooine. Sandtroopers wear temperature-controlled body gloves underneath their armor to help keep themselves cool. For those Sandtroopers permanently stationed on a desert world, they quickly learn that they will never truly stay cool.
For this custom I took a Commtech Stormtrooper from the Fan Club Army Builder set and took off the arms at the elbow joints and sculpted on new elbows to change the pose of the arms to better hold a rifle. I then took an orange pauldron from a POTF2 Sandtrooper and placed it on the CT Stormtrooper by slicing the back of the pauldron so it would slide onto the neck. After gluing on the backpack and adding the rifle, I added a liberal amount of a dirty sand wash I made to give the impression that this Sandtrooper spent many hours out in the desert. I think the effect came out very well, don't you? I promise to have a better picture for this custom sometime soon.
