Jabba the Hutt employed a large number of individuals from many different species to guard himself, his palace, his guests, and his Sail Skiff. This individual is Klaatu a member of the Kadas'sa Nikto race of the Nikto species (which has many different races, just like humans on Earth) from the planet Kintan. Klaatu's job was to insure security on the floor of Jabba's throne room as well as the main deck of Jabba's sail barge. Klaatu died serving Jabba when Luke Skywalker and his Rebel companions attempted to rescue Han Solo in Return of the Jedi.
This custom was inspired by the first of two Klaatu figures that was released for the vintage Kenner ROTJ line. The first figure represented Klaatu as he looked in Jabba's palace, while the second figure as well as the POTF2 version released in the Skiff Guards Cinema Scene represents Klaatu as a skiff guard aboard his master's sail barge. After getting the aforementioned cinema scene, I took apart the three figures and went to work on this custom. I used the torso, skirt and arms of Nikto, the head and hands of Klaatu, and the legs of Barada. The paint scheme is loosely based on the first vintage Klaatu. The original brown portions of the torso and the shoulders were painted a darker brown, while the vest and the remaining parts of the arm were painted a dark gray. The legs were painted a dark gray as well, with the skirt painted a desert tan. The head had the flap portion on the back cut off to match the vintage head, the neck was sliced along the sides to allow it to fit properly into the torso. The hands were positioned in the same manner as Nikto's, allowing a two-handed grip on the staff that came from Klaatu. Klaatu now stands guard in my Jabba's Palace diorama.
