R5-E2 is an Imperial maintenance unit that served aboard the 2nd Death Star above Endor. It was assigned to the personal hangar bay of Emperor Palpatine where it would make repairs to computer interfaces and electronic systems on both ships that entered the bay and the hangar bay itself. It can be seen in ROTJ as Palpatine's shuttle arrives and was destroyed along with the Death Star.
R2-R9 is an Imperial Intelligence unit that was given the mission of infiltrating the Rebel pilot training facility on Commenor's moon of Folor. The data it sent back to its Imperial masters helped lead to the destruction of the facility sometime after the Battle of Thyferra when Wraith Squadron trained at Folor. R2-R9 was destroyed along with the rest of the facility.
R5-E2 was my first run through with coloring in the black and green scheme that I used for my Whistler custom. It got the same treatment my Pacified R5-D4 did, the removal of the leg guns and leg tab. The body was then painted flat black with the green trim added. R2-R9 was repainted from a broken Booster Rocket R2-D2 from Episode 1, 5 minutes after I got the figure, I broke the rocket assembly inside of it. I couldn't repair the damage so I just repainted the body red and the dome gloss black. Though hard to see on the scan, the dome comes off shiny and reflective.
