I've been wanting to make this for a while but didn't want to ruin my vintage Interceptor. Also, I was ticked off when they didn't change the cockpit! What's the sense in including a figure with bending knees and keeping the same old cockpit???
I took the Interceptor apart and cut out the seat (pic 3) along with some of the plastic around the screw holes on the top half. On the bottom half, I had to cut off the plastic where the laser cannons are attached (pic 4) to make room for the figure's feet.
Then I took the gunner station apart and keeping only the top half, I cut the "wings" of the seat off, even with the chair (pic 5). then I painted the chair black and applied dull coat. I then took a plastic ring I found at work, cut off maybe 40% of it and bolted it to the seat. this was done to hold the figure in place. Next, I assembled the fighter. The seat is easier to put in when you slide it in from the front of the top half of the cockpit. Next, all that was left to do is paint the solar panels. The painted areas should be about 11 spaces wide. When I was working on the cockpit, I thought it would be easier to work on it if I took the top panels off. But then they wouldn't stay on when I tried to reassemble it. So I was forced to apply putty on the hinges (pic 3).
