This custom was inspired obviously by the vintage figure shown below. I really had to select the parts carefully, because I wanted to get as close as I could to the design that was used.
I first started by collecting all the parts, and then changing the boots. I liked the kneepads of the Luke Hoth legs, but the boots HAD to go! The Han boots are flatter and with only some slight changes, look pretty close to the original.
I sculpted the body details, including the holster and pouch on his belt, the zippers on the sleeves, and the shoulder pads. the biggest sculpt of course is the helmet. The EU Pilot had great goggles built in, but the helmet is 100% Sculpey.
I then spraypainted the figure white, and added the other colors afterwards, including a new skin tone. I did need to touch up some of the white paint, since the figure fell down while he was sprayed, and left a circle.
Finally, I modified a short Bossk gun by cutting out the middle barrel. This left a unique pistol for the pilot. I decided to forego the communicater, unless I can articulate the arm to go up to his face. Hmmm....maybe for another pilot...?
