If you've been checking out the DCU this year, you know I like to make some pretty obscure characters. Well, this guy is so obscure, he only appeared for 2 pages in a book!
Since the Ho'Din race is VERY tall, I decided to use Jar Jar as a base, since those legs are pretty long. Stick on a pair of boots, and he becomes even taller! I then chose the rest of the parts to match the character, including the neck. I used the head because I knew I'd be sculpting over it, and I had nothing else planned for it!
Once I assembled the parts and glued them together, I began sculpting the details. His armbands and left glove were very basic features to make, but the face and hair proved a HUGE challenge! to make the snakelike hair of Spero, I added a wad of sculpey to the head and then used a pen tube to cretae the tendrils. The effect was just what I wanted!
After I cured the sculpey by boiling it, I then primed the figure with white spray paint. I only recently began using this technique, but it does give the figure a consistent paint job when you are finished. I recommend it.
I used the color scheme from the Encyclopedia, rather than the carded picture, because it was the first photo I came across. As an added detail, I glued on some hairclips from a leftover Slave Leia braid. I then added some more details and highlights on the figure for added realism.
I originally was going to use a Vader cape, but it was too short and too heavy....he kept falling over! I opted for a cloth cloak instead, and even got it to wrap around the neck for a collar.
