Shmi is the mother of Anakin Skywalker. They are both slave of Watto's, and they live in the slave quarters on Tatooine. She is kind and loving, and makes a difficult decision to let Anakin leave her to become a Jedi.

This custom has been kicking around in the back of my head for months now. Then Hasbro announced a cool version and had a photo of the upcoming figure (see below). So, I decided to forget about this custom idea. THEN, Hasbro decided to postpone the Shmi figuire, despite the fact that she is an important character and that fans really want her. So I figured...why wait? I'll make my own version!

A true "spare-parts" custom figure! This figure proved to be a real pain! Not only did I have to sculpt on the hair and modify the Luke chest, but I also originally shortened the skirt, decided she was TOO short, and then had to glue it back together. I also mixed up the Luke chest (considering I have a bunch to choose from) so I had the hardest time keeping it glued together. Every time I rotated the arms, the chest popped open!

Once I decided upon a length, I had to sculpt the hair, sleeves, and chest. I opted for the Obi-Wan arms in order to keep articulation for her. I like the way they turned out. i glued on a small piece of plastic to represent the thing hanging from her belt.

I then had to carve off Beru's hair and sculpt new hair. I cut off Obi-Wan's hands and glued on Beru's hands. This was because the Obi-Wan hands were WAY too big, and the Beru hands had sleeves on them, which was nice because I didn't have to sculpt them! the only drawback is that her forearms were too long, but the sculpey sleeves took care of that.

Finally, the colors. She has a very grey and drab looking costume, and no two reference shots I found agreed on the colors...they were very differnet. Even the toy that was planned had some strange color schemes. So, I tried to make a type of overall color scheme, which works nicely.
