Gilad Pellaeonwas a military man with a conscience. In more than fifty years of service, Gilad though it smarter to live to fight another day than to commit some foolish sacrifice. He commanded the Star Destroyer Chimaera, he withdrew from the Battle of Endor after the Death Star was destroyed.

During the years following, Pellaeon attempted to bring the remnants of the Empire together. But the squabbling of the remaining leaders led him to the brink of despair until Grand Admiral Thrawn appeared and became the new leader of the Empire. When Thrawn was killed by his Noghri bodyguard Rukh, Pellaeon ordered his troops to retreat again.

Years later, Pellaeon was now a Vice Admiral, and served under Admiral Daala -- who took over the Empire by killing the remaning warlords. Together, Daala and Pellaeon attacked the Jedi Academy on Yavin 4. However, the attack was thwarted by the Jedi trainees. Defeated, Daala relinquished her leadership to Pellaeon, making HIM the leader he so longed to serve.
