This was the most fun I have had creating a custom STAR WARS figure! Some people feel that he is too bag, but I argue that he was only shown sitting down, and look how he towered over everyone! I think that in the STAR WARS universe, aliens should be bigger than human-scale at times. So, yeah, he's big, but that's okay
I'll start with the body: The old rubbery Violator body works perfectly for this character. Not only is it flexible enough for him to sit down and stand up, but the hands and feet are dead-on matches for Yarael! I cut off the head of the Violator, and painted the hands and feet a pale yellow.
Then I dressed him up. I used material for the robe and just glued the sleeves together. Then I bunched it up towards the neck, and I glued it to the underside of the eyepatch. An eyepatch! Truly the most bizarre thing I have ever used for a custom, but it worked great!
Now, for the best part, the head. I used the top horn from Violator to stick into the body. It has a groove in it and the horn can actually move back and forth, so there is a little articulation there! I then glued the neck to the head, which believe it or not, is a Sith Probe Droid! That's right, under all the sculpey there is a plastic missile that used to launch from the backpack. I sculpted the face and baked it. Once it was glued on, I painted the head and neck to match the hands and feet.
The lightsaber (assuming he uses one--I imagine with his mental powers, he wouldn't need to) was made from various pieces of my son's LEGO colledction, which he has already taken back from me! Oh well....
Oh, by the way, don't youi just love the drawing below? Gives you a whole new perspective on Jedi, doesn't it?
Also, shown below for the very first time, is a scan of Yarael with his "parts" showing, so you can see how it all fits together.
