"CREATE-A-CARD" CONTEST!

First, some thoughts about my design for the card. When Hasbro displayed its design for a "combination card" (combining the two trilogies) recently, a number folks were disappointed with it, and thought it would be fun to make their own designs. Shawn Kelly suggested having a "Casting Call" where folks would create their own version of such a card. this was slated for april, but was cancelled in favor of the "Create-A-Card" Contest. I was chosen as a finalist in the "Create-A-Card" Contest, which was pretty exciting. I didn't win, but it was cool to be chosen out of all the great designs that were submitted.
My idea was to have the card in the shape of R2-D2, since he is pretty much the only character to appear in all 4 mociers and his appearance has (so far) remained pretty consistent in each film. I chose to represent the changing of the "new" trilogy to the "classic" trilogy by utilizing the RETURN OF THE JEDI poster. Only I changed the background color switching from blue to red (the diffrent lightsabers of Anakin Skywalker). The color change is supported by the hands. One is human (Anakin) and the other is gloved (Vader). I also left space for the COMMtech chip, because we had decided to include the details that Hasbro's designers were forced with--the chips being one of them.
One important design (to me anyway) was to have the name of the character on the side of the card. I balanced it by adding a collection name on the other side. I HATE going to a store trying to find the latest figure, only to have them all fall off the pegs when I moved the rack over to see what is there. I think if the name were on the side (where it would be easily spotted), I wouldn't knock so many figures off the pegs!!
For this set, I realized that I never made the back!! So, I modified the front a bit, getting rid of the COMMtech logo. Since this card was going to have 2 figures on it, there wasn't a lot of room. I added the normal logos in the botom corners, to "sign" it. The bubbles are from a pair of cheap Stormtroopers, stuck side-by-side.
The back was soemthing that I just played around with. I added the usual logos, UPC, and copyright info, but I played around with an "Imperial" look to the top of the card. This could change with each theme of characters as more are made. The background for the FINAL JEDI DUEL was copied and rotated into a "circle." I threw on some reference photos and a brief description.
Finally, time to give credit where credit is due. The text and scans were taken from THE VISUAL DICTIONARY and THE INSIDERS GUIDE CD-ROM.
