It all started with the Hoojibs. In issue #58 , the Rebels set up a base on the planet Arbra, where they kept having power failures on all the equipment. Turns out these small rabbit-like creatures were absorbing the power from all the equipment! These telepathic creatures quickly became allies of the Alliance and allowed them to stay on their planet for a time. This story was even adapted into a book-and-record set for kids.
