A simple idea that took a LONG time to get down the way I wanted. I really like the Kotobukiya Clone Trooper kit, but it's just a bit out of my price range! So, I took a Sneak Preview Clone Trooper figure, and literally cut him into very tiny pieces!
First I cut off the limbs: left hand, left arm at the shoulder, right arm at the elbow, both legs at the thigh. What is nice about making Clone Trooper customs is that there are automatic "seams" between the armor for adding articulation or repositioning limbs.
Then I glued them back into place to match the model kit pictures. Some limbs needed to shaved down a bit in order to get the pose. The kneepads and right elbow pad needed to be glued back into place, although it left some gaps between them. But nothing a little black paint couldn't cover up!
I did add some articulation to the left arm by drilling a small hol throughout the limb and then inserting a papercilp through it. So the arm actually moves at the bicep and the elbow. So now he can salute his commander or give an "all clear" signal or something. Then just add some extra weathering to cover up the glue lines, and tthat's pretty much it!
While this custom is mostly a statue, it adds a difernet look to the Clone Trooper army dioramas!
