STORMTROOPER
Inspired by the artwork of Ralph McQuarrie

Ralph McQuarrie was the original artist for STAR WARS. He designed the "first look" of many of the charcters we are familiar with now, some of whom had a much different look than they do today. This early version of Stormtroopers is pretty similar to what was used, with a few minor adjustments.

This was a pretty simple custom. The designs for the armor are pretty similar to what was actually used. Notice the differences in the shoulder, knee, chest armor, and of course the helmet. I modified the armor by carving off the knees and repainting the joints. For the helmet, I just added some sculpey to it to make it elongated. It had some degree of success, but I didn't smooth it out enough...you can still see my fingerprints in some areas! then, I just repainted it. For the shield, I scraped off the dragon design on them, and then I added sculpey to make it longer and rectangular instead of pointed on top. There is a small bracket on teh back which attaches to the arms, although it is at an angle. I may reposition the arms of the figure so it can hold it at the proper angle.
