This customs is really just a repaint, but what a paint job! The first thing I needed to do was remove the flame around the Torch's head, which was no easy task. It was too thick to cut through, and the plastic did not get loose when heated up. I ended up pulling it off with a pair of pliers, and filling in the gaps with sculpey, and also sculpted the ears and horns.
Since the Torch was made of a translucent plastic, I painted the whole thing red. I originally left the eyes and teeth alone, so that light could shine through the head, similar to the way the Jawas are made. I changed my mind though, since I knew I'd have to cover up the top of the head when I made the horns.
I cut off the left hand and glued on an extra hand I had laying around so he could hold his lightsaber. He still has the "ridges" from the Human Torch, but it sort of gives him a bizarre look. I could have sanded them down, I guess...but I chose not to.
Just for the heck of it, I threw around a piece of cloth for the cape, but I think he looks better without it. I did get to use "soft goods" though, y creating a loincloth for him from a piece of a Batman cape. It is just tied in the back, so it could come off I guess...but since this is a family site... :)
Finally, I thought it would be fun to make a mock-up of what the packaging would be like, considering Hasbro is planning on making a "Shirtless Maul" right now.
