HAN SOLO
Inspired by the artwork of Ralph McQuarrie

Ralph McQuarrie was the original artist for STAR WARS. He designed the "first look" of many of the charcters we are familiar with now, some of whom had a much different look than they do today. This early version of Han Solo seems to be a blend of Han and Ben Kenobi. Bowen from the DRAGONHEART line (head) Endor Han Solo (legs) Skiff Guard Lando Calrissian (chest) Dash Rendar (arms) Princess Leia (cape) Greedo (gun) Naboo Accessory Set (lighsaber) I carved off the back of Bowen's hair and sculpted some of the armor onto the body. I have yet to master sculpey baking, as I keep getting bad results (see C-3PO). The waist "stump" warped just enough so that Lando's chest didn't close anymore. I tried to cut the stump enough so it would close, but broke in half! Aarrgghh! Now the chest and waist stay apart, making the figure very loose. To balance this, I grabbed some rubber from the Chewbacca (see Chewbacca) skirt and wedged it into the space, making the figure taller now. I opted to use the green lightsaber because I had both handles, and because there was a lot of blue in the clothing. The "deactivated" handle fits into a sculpey holder, that fits into the space the rubber is in. I repainted the figure to match the photo, and I also cut off Dash's right glove and rotated it so that he could hold the saber across him like he does in the painting.
