Jan Dodonna planned the assault on the first DEATH STAR in A NEW HOPE. He successfully studied the plans from R2-D2 and used them to find a weakpoint. In the CLASSIC STAR WARS reprints, Jan Dodonna was reportedly killed when he sacrificed his life. Later stories show that he did in fact live. In the ROGUE SQUADRON novels, he was a prisoner of Ysanne Isard aboard the LUSANKYA. In the DARK EMPIRE comic series, he has rejoined the Alliance as a valued leader.

This custom pictured on the left was submitted to the "Critique-of-the-Week" for the week of 9/5/99 - 9/12/99. At the suggestion of several members, Phil decided to make another attempt at this figure. The results are shown below.

This figure was a must for my rebel heirarchy display. I sat down one night with the sea diver head from the Mcfarlane Creature set, and began sculpting. At first I was just toying around, but it started to look nice, and after the initial shock subsided, I pulled out my Dodonna reference pictures and had at it. It wasn't really difficult, just lots of clay. I spent all night doing it. When I was done, I just painted it white and greyed out parts of his beard and eyebrows. The finishing touch was Mon Mothma's baton. Everyone thinks it's a lightsaber.

VERSION 2

Well, here's the revised Jan Dodonna. When featured on COTW the general consensus was that he was too buff for an old fart. I used a Lando General torso that I'd filed the gun belt off of. A little clay was added to eliminate the crease up the front, as well as to make the shirt bulge a bit. I had to mix the shirt color and it's still not perfect, but as close as I'm likely to attempt. The pants were Tarkin's. I chose them because of their baggy look. I needed his pants to look like trousers, not tights. I shaved off the tunic bottom on them as Jan's shirt is tucked in. The final touch was a gloss clearcoat, which although slightly shinier than Hasbro's, looks nice and protects well.
