I didnt have an extra Zuckuss to throw away just for the head. Zuckuss for those who didnt know is the only Gand Character (I think) from the movies and the only Gand figure for certain.
2 I also have not gotten my Sculpy work down at all so that was out of the question.
With that being said I used the following stuff... A 4 lom head and a Ten Numb Body/Helmet.4 Lom and Zuckuss look quite a bit alike.
4 lom is the protocol droid turned bounty hunter from Empire Strikes Back. Matter of factly they look so similar that some of you may know, some like me may even remember (I was only 4 in 1981 when I got them) that Kenner mislabeled each of these characters as eachother (i.e. Zuckuss marked 4 Lom, 4 Lom became Zuckuss....
So now time for my improv recipe...
The Head was the trickiest part. I cut the Helmet off of the life support band attached to Ten Numbs flightsuit. I cut all of the tubing off from his flightsuit and helmet. I cut 2 small pieces off of the banding and sharpened one of the ends on each. I then drilled a 1/16" hole under each vocalizer thing on the front of the head. Then I crazy glued the tubes in each of the holes. (I should have made the tubing longer but what the hell, maybe Ooryl gets his masks off of a different manufacturer than Zuckuss)
Then I switched the heads.
The most tedious part was the Painting. I painted the whole flight suit X wing orange
then I painted the LEg straps white. (this wasnt too hard if you just follow the straps sculpted on the Ten Numb fig.
Gloves and Boots were painted black. Also Painted some straps around his flak Vest to connect from the front to back on the top and sides.
The Head was painted by mixing colors till I got a nice chocolate Brown (I wanted to make the head a richer color then Zuckuss cause well Zuckuss didnt seem as nice :). The Eyes were painted silver and I painted black ends on the tips of Ooryls makeshift breathing apparatus tubes.
I shaved the Tubes completely off of the helmet and then shaved around the inside of the face part of the helmet so that it would fit and so that it didnt cover Ooryls eyes up. Here are pics of him with and sans helmet.
